Experiences of students from different universities at CIDS
One of the main objectives of the Center for Research in Law and Society of the UAI is the socio-legal study, promoting interdisciplinary research. For this, it is essential to complement knowledge from different areas of the social sciences, for which the incorporation of students and graduates from other universities has been essential.
Between February and March of this year, Felipe Águila and Josefina Gambardella joined CIDS, both sociologists from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and the Universidad de Chile, respectively. Their work has been focused on qualitative and empirical research on the situation of care rights in the commune of Peñalolén.
Talking with Felipe, he told us that the focus of the center and his interest in studying legal phenomena from a social perspective was what motivated him to join the team. He also adds that “socio-legal studies have interested me for some years, and I saw in CIDS a space where I could continue working in that line. I was also interested in the relationship that the center maintains with the Municipality of Peñalolén, which gives a more applied character to the research and a relationship with the environment that seems fundamental to me. I am interested that our research work can have a practical impact, which I hope is the case of the study Chile Cuida and the work of the municipality”.
In relation to Josefina, she points out that it has been a good experience for her. “The internship has given me the opportunity to apply knowledge and deepen skills very relevant to my professional training in the field of social research. I highlight the teamwork as one of the positive aspects of the center, because it generates a collaborative space of much learning,” explains Josefina.
Finally, among the latest additions to the Center is Pablo Cantillana, a lawyer from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso. His work is focused on the research project on access to justice, which began in July. Regarding his experience, he commented that “There is a great human capacity. The work team is very good. The infrastructure of the center allows a great development of the projects. It is a well-known center in the field and the support of the University is transcendental”.
